The Senior Compliance Engineer is responsible for global product compliance initiatives and ensuring Hayward products meet all applicable safety, EMC, performance, regulatory, and material compliance requirements.  Based in our Clemmons, NC facility, this role will provide strategic and hands-on technical competence for compliance activities across multiple product categories and global markets.

 

The Senior Compliance Engineer will mentor junior engineers, guide cross-functional teams, and partner with global agencies to strengthen Hayward’s certification, testing, and compliance infrastructure. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership, communication, and project management skills to uphold Hayward’s reputation for product excellence and regulatory integrity.

Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Manage global agency certification and regulatory compliance projects for recreational water products including variable speed pumps, filtration systems, robotic cleaners, and white goods.
  • Lead product safety, performance, and energy efficiency testing from product conception through final regulatory approvals.
  • Mentor and develop compliance and product design engineers in regulatory processes, testing methodologies, and certification standards.
  • Act as a technical advisor and subject matter expert to engineering leadership, identifying applicable regulatory requirements, influencing product design decisions, and advising on compliance strategies that ensure global compliance readiness.
  • Promote consistent, continuous improvement of compliance practices, tools, and documentation across Hayward’s global engineering sites.
  • Represent Hayward in industry forums, standards committees, and external audits to shape emerging regulatory requirements and maintain leadership in compliance practices.

Technical and Operational Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain comprehensive compliance records of certifications and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate with international test laboratories (NRTLs, Notified Bodies, EMC labs, etc.) to obtain necessary approvals for global market access.
  • Engages in technical design reviews to identify applicable regulatory requirements, advise project teams on compliance strategies, contribute to product design decisions, and assess the scope of regulatory efforts.  Estimate time, resources, and activities required to achieve certifications and regulatory milestones. 
  • Provide expert guidance to product development teams through all phases of the agency certification process, ensuring timely delivery of compliant products.
  • Manage internal compliance testing, including safety, EMC, and environmental validation, and support design teams in troubleshooting test failures.
  • Author and maintain compliance process documentation, procedures, and training materials to support certification and accreditation programs.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality teams to ensure factory compliance with safety agency audits and maintain certification continuity across production sites.
  • Support development and calibration of test and measurement equipment, as well as maintenance of lab certification programs (e.g., UL Data Acceptance, ISO 17025).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related Sciences required. ME or EE preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, product certification, or related engineering fields.  Experience working in a Design/Manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Proven success leading certification activities. Experience testing & certifying products to UL, CSA, NSF, & IEC standards in a Global environment. 
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles.
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 and Agency Data Acceptance Programs (e.g. UL DAP, NSF AMD, Intertek Satellite) is a plus.
  • Previous experience with DOE, EPA, Material Compliance regulations and NFPA 70 a plus.

  • Willingness to travel as needed for global compliance and audit activities.

Work Environment: 

  • Involves both Office and Laboratory work. Indoor & Outdoor activities are routine requirements of the job. 
  • Commonly works around water, mechanical assemblies, and electrical machinery.
