Based in our Nashville, TN facility, and reporting to the Global Sr. Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for all NPD and Sustaining engineering for Gas Heaters and Heat Pumps at our Nashville facility.  The Engineering Manager is a leadership position with Mechanical/HVAC Engineers, CAD Designers, and Technicians reporting directly to the role.  The position will create and define the best practices and methods for focused engineering development with an emphasis on reliability and executing project schedules and cost targets.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for execution of New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering initiatives to planned time frames and budgets for natural/propane gas heaters and heat pumps in Nashville.
  • Direct engineering activities for gas heaters and heat pumps. Prioritize resources among New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering activities.  Ensure alignment to Hayward business objectives and Engineering priorities provided by senior management.
  • Provide leadership for internal heating development projects and for projects with Hayward third party technology partners.
  • Support the Project Management Office (PMO) by enabling adherence to the Hayward gated development process for all gas heaters and heat pump development projects.
  • Summarize and provide concise status reports of Engineering progress with senior management. Oversee presentations and documentation for Engineering updates and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Testing, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing groups to ensure development flows into production. Ensure any New Product Development or VAVE initiative has completed testing and validation to the Hayward gated development process.
  • Understand key competitor products and technology. Understand regional and global customer markets.
  • Manage 3rd party development efforts from definition of initial specification to delivery. Interface with Finance and Purchasing groups for NDA and contractual obligations. Ensure work products for any 3rd party contractor is satisfactory, efficient and meets Hayward standards for delivered work.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years’ experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment, preferably with gas heaters and/or heat pumps
  • 8+ years’ experience leading engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise with the development of new products from concept into manufacturing, balancing cost, performance and schedule.
  • Experience mentoring and training engineering teams to best practices.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and agency regulations associated with product development in gas heating and heat pumps.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with manufacturing engineering and production personnel leveraging strong DFM/A principles.
  • Design and development experience of medium to high-volume consumer products.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; skill at developing and delivering technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and senior management.
  • Team player who works across multiple functional areas to complete time sensitive projects.

Education:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required
