Overview

Oversee the overall operation of the electro/mechanical manufacturing and assembly environment to ensure continuous flow and on-time delivery of product to the customer at the highest quality and lowest cost within a build to order/build to stock manufacturing environment.  Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture parts or products.  This is a full-time position – the hours of work are Monday – Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. (40 hours per week).   Friday may be required from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. as job duties demand.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise activities of production personnel including but not limited to work assignments, training and cross training, payroll system/timecards – track absenteeism and timekeeping, vacation planning, salary and performance reviews and disciplinary actions as required.
  • Ensure regulatory and safety compliance for all processes related to and supporting the production area.
  • Communicates job expectations and monitors productivity.
  • Interpret and communicate specifications, blueprints and work instructions as required.
  • In conjunction with Manufacturing Manager, develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • May be required to develop capital equipment justifications for machine tools and process technology to improve quality, cost, and efficiency (as part of cell-based manufacturing).
  • In conjunction with the Manufacturing Manager, Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering, ensure new product introduction activities are supported and new products are implemented in a timely fashion.
  • Accountable and drives continuous improvement in cycle count program to drive accurate inventory.
  • Be an active participant in the Engineering Change Process. In conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering and Production management personnel, drive activities which ensure that changes being proposed are adequately documented for production use.  Make sure that the change does not add any complexity for manufacturing unless necessary, rectifies problem as stated, and the cost impact of the change is clearly understood and documented.  Ensure changes are communicated and implemented into manufacturing on a timely basis.
  • Manage department performance measures, including visual controls, provides regular progress and failure reports to manager. Aims to meet and exceed all productivity targets.
  • Ensure an adequate training process is documented and in place for all production personnel.
  • Lead and/or support Kaizen Events as related to production.
  • Ensure plant and equipment maintenance plans are in place and followed. Areas include ESD, manufacturing equipment maintenance, assembly line test, packaging equipment, and calibration.
  • Assumes responsibility of securing the facility by setting the building alarm and locking up at the end of the shift.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong coach who can highly motivate employees.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to multi-task with a pro-active approach to issue resolution.
    • Ability to clearly think through the critical tasks that need to be done (or facilitate team through this process) assigns ownership and due dates.
    • Anticipates issues and sets appropriate contingency plans during planning process.
    • Takes corrective action when needed to keep program on track, communicates upward when objectives cannot be met with recovery plan.

 

Education and Experience:

  • S. degree in a related field and/or 3-5 years of manufacturing supervisory experience, which provided thorough knowledge of a variety of manufacturing activities.
  • Electronic manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience or exposure to Lean and Continuous Improvement Initiatives such as Kaizen Events.
  • Strong commitment to employee development with an emphasis on selection and retention.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand and walk.  The employee will frequently be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
