This internship offers an exciting opportunity for students to work hands-on with firmware development, debugging, and real-time embedded systems.

What You’ll Do:

As an Embedded Software Development Intern, you’ll become an integral part of Hayward’s firmware development team, contributing to real-world projects such as underwater light control algorithms, microcontroller bootloaders, and software utilities for firmware updates. You’ll gain firsthand experience in embedded software development, working under the guidance of senior engineers.

Your Responsibilities:

✅ Coding & Development:

• Write, test, and debug C-based embedded software for microcontroller-based products.
• Assist in the design and development of new embedded systems and features.
• Participate in requirements gathering and research for new product capabilities.

✅ Troubleshooting & Debugging:

• Analyze reported issues from Hayward’s bug tracking system, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
• Work with debugging tools such as emulators, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes to diagnose hardware/software issues.

✅ Software Quality Assurance & Testing:

• Write unit tests and modify existing tests as needed.
• Gain exposure to Agile SCRUM processes and software quality assurance (SQA) procedures.

What We’re Looking For:

✔ Currently enrolled as a rising senior in a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
✔ Passionate about software development and embedded systems.
✔ Strong C programming skills.
✔ Exposure to real-time operating systems (RTOS).
✔ Familiarity with debugging tools (emulators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
✔ Experience with IDEs such as Eclipse, MPLAB, or IAR.
✔ Understanding of source control concepts (Git preferred).
✔ Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
✔ Must have reliable transportation to and from the internship location.
