The Electrical Engineer II (Value Engineering) plays a key role in optimizing electronics design and product development to enhance performance, reduce costs, and drive innovation across Hayward’s pool components and control systems. This role requires expertise in analog, digital, and embedded systems design, with a focus on value engineering and product optimization from concept through manufacturing release.

As part of a cross-functional team, the Electrical Engineer II will collaborate with product management, mechanical, firmware, and test engineering to improve efficiency and add industry-leading features to smart heaters, variable speed pumps, LED lighting, chemical delivery systems, and full automation controls.

Responsibilities

Product Optimization & Electrical Design

  • Independently and collaboratively design or modify analog and digital circuits using schematic capture and simulation.
  • Own the end-to-end electrical design process, including PCB board layout, EMC/EMI compliance, and product validation testing.
  • Develop and execute test methods for design validation, including simulations, prototyping, and system verification.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, ensuring robust circuit design, verification, and testing.
  • Identify technical solutions and evaluate trade-off options to align with platform requirements and common engineering tools.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to drive product optimization efforts.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, engineering specifications, and design requirements.
  • Present findings and design methodologies to engineering and leadership teams.
  • Specify and evaluate components for optimized performance and cost-effectiveness.

Testing & Product Launch

  • Coordinate and execute validation testing and system certification for compliance with HALT, Thermal, EMC/EMI, UL, CE, and other industry standards.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineering to ensure seamless production support during early product launch phases.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • 2-4+ years of experience as an electrical design engineer, product developer, sustaining engineer, or Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) engineer, based on education level.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, Eagle).
  • Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and analog/digital circuitry.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, EMC, and environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with designing for long life/high MTBF environments.
  • Understanding of mechanical, thermal, and packaging design for industrial electronics.
  • Experience in project scope estimation and ability to balance multiple assignments.
  • Firmware coding in C is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing in a team-based environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical approach to design challenges.
  • Flexibility to lead design scope or execute assigned tasks based on project needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
