Hayward designs, manufactures, and markets a full line of residential and commercial pool and spa equipment including pumps, filters, heating, cleaners, salt chlorinators, automation, lighting, safety, flow control and energy solutions at our company owned facilities. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Hayward also has facilities in Tennessee, Arizona, and Rhode Island as well as Canada, Spain, France, Australia, and China.  This role is based in Clemmons, NC.

 

The Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers, driving technical excellence, product innovation, and operational efficiency. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise to ensure the development of high-quality products that enhance Hayward’s market presence.

 

In this role, you will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams—including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Planning, and IT—to execute Hayward’s vision. You will focus on speed and quality in product development, ensuring the success of projects through Hayward’s gated Product Development Process.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development discussions.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-morale culture within the team.
  • Provide technical guidance and support engineers in achieving their professional goals.

Technical Strategy & Execution

  • Partner with senior leadership and product teams to define and execute product and technology roadmaps.
  • Build technical expertise and capabilities to support Hayward’s long-term growth.
  • Oversee product architecture, design reviews, and best practices for pumps, filters, valves, and other pool equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in product design, processes, and systems.

Project & Delivery Management

  • Lead engineering projects from concept to launch, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Manage resources, priorities, and timelines to balance short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product management, design, and quality teams to align project goals.
  • Support cross-functional planning and decision-making to optimize product development.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Champion a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and product performance.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in product design and engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role.
  • Expertise in injection-molded plastics, liquid pumps, electric motors, and/or valves is a plus.
  • Familiarity with gated development processes and modular product development methodologies.
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM, SolidWorks, or equivalent design tools.
  • Strong background in DfX, DFMEA, Modeling & Simulation, and other robust engineering design methodologies.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear for extended periods.
  • Must wear safety glasses when on the production floor.
