Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Hayward also has facilities in Tennessee, Arizona, and Rhode Island as well as Canada, Spain, France, Australia, and China.  This position is based ­in Clemmons, NC.

 

The Plastics Engineer Intern will be exposed to a broad range of plastic injection molding processes (primary and secondary).  The intern will be mentored by an experienced Engineer.

 

YOUR Goals and Learning Experiences:Throughout this internship, the candidate will be immersed in a manufacturing organization, experiencing every operation within manufacturing (molding and assembly).  The intern experience will include but is not limited to:

  • Injection Molding
  • Blow Molding
  • Assembly
  • Plastic Welding (ultrasonic, hot plate, spin, vibration, thermal insertion)
  • Robotic part take-out and value add activities
  • Solid modeling
  • Mold Filling simulation
  • 3D printing

Responsibilities

  • Sample new and existing molds under the guidance of a Plastics Engineer
  • Develop robust scientific molding processes
  • Design end of arm tooling in SolidWorks, procure components, assemble, and test
  • Evaluate auxiliary equipment requirements (ex. material dryers, water temperature control units, hot runner controls, etc.) Evaluate molded part parameters to determine equipment specifications. Request quotes for new equipment.
  • Complete mold filling analysis using Autodesk Mold Flow

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS Plastics Engineering/Technology
  • Passionate about plastic injection molding
  • Ability to complete individual assignments as well work as in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must have transportation to and from the internship

 

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and listen. The employee will frequently be required to stand and walk; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment: This position works in an office setting, a development lab/shop area and on the production floor and works around dust, oil, electrical/ pneumatic/hydraulic devices, and mechanically moving parts. Safety glasses are required while on the plant floor. Certain areas of the plant require hearing protection.
