    Position Overview:

    The Reliability Engineering Manager, reporting to the Director of Engineering, will manage all activities of Reliability and Test Engineers and coordinate all aspects of Hayward’s Design for Reliability program for mechanical products for in-ground and above-ground pools (www.hayward-pool.com). You will manage all aspects of product life-cycle, including failure analysis, and ensure that the highest levels of reliability, quality and performance are observed.  This is a high visibility position with responsibility for overseeing our mission to be the most recognizable name in pool products for excellence in reliability.  This position will manage Reliability activities in both our Clemmons and our Nashville facilities, and will require some travel.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with product design teams to analyze preliminary engineering-design concepts of major products to recommend design and/or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability.
    • Supervise Reliability Engineers’ activities to ensure that reliability test methods and processes meet both industry standards and customer reliability objectives.
    • Actively participate in design review meetings to ensure all aspects of the reliability plan are maintained.
    • Supervise Reliability Engineering’s analysis of projected product utilization and calculate cumulative effect on final system reliability of individual part reliabilities.
    • Manage Design and Process Failure and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify units posing excessive failure risks and support proposed changes in design.
    • Provide guidance to internal team and interface with suppliers regarding reliability testing and analysis.
    • Review engineering specifications and drawings, propose design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.
    • Observe conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors, such as numbers and causes of unit failures.
    • Collaborate with quality engineering to manage field failure and propose corrective actions using Root Cause Analysis methods
    • Manage activities, equipment needs and personnel in the Reliability Testing Lab
    • Assist the Quality Manager in prioritizing and supervising activities in the Returned Materials Analysis Lab, and provide direct supervision to the Electrical Returned Goods Analysis Engineer.
    • Analyze warranty data and actively participate in warranty reduction activities

    Qualifications

    Experience/Qualifications:

    • 10 years with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a reliability engineering supervision or management role
    • Knowledge of reliability engineering tools and techniques for robust design such as DfR, Weibull analysis, accelerated life testing, HALT/HASS testing, reliability growth testing, etc…
    • Knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing, and assembly processes
    • Demonstrated experience with engineering reliability of products from conception to commercialization, balancing cost, schedule and Voice of Customer in the design process
    • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams
    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication and analytical skills are highly desirable.
    • Skill at developing and delivering technical presentations to non-technical staff and executives is desirable
    • Working knowledge of ReliaSoft Weibull++/ALTA is a plus

     

    Education:

    • BS in an engineering discipline
    • Reliability engineering certification is a plus
