    This position will be based in our North Kingstown, Rhode Island facility, and will report to the Engineering Director.  The Manager of Platform Engineering will be responsible for all NPD and Sustaining projects for Pool Controls, Chemical Automation/Sanitization and Lighting developments at our Rhode Island facility (HRI). The Manager of Platform Engineering is a leadership position with the Project Engineering and Project Management staff reporting directly to the role. This position includes project oversight, creation and definition of best practices and methods for project management, and a complete understanding of the product development processes. The Manager of Platform Engineering will provide oversight for platform architecture and product design execution from concept through volume production utilizing a cross-functional team to ensure that the highest levels of design reliability, quality and performance are observed.



    • Overall responsibility for execution of product development and sustaining initiatives to planned time frames and budgets for HRI.
    • Provide leadership and ownership for platform development projects in support of new product development and sustaining efforts for all business units at HRI.
    • Direct activities and provide judgement for the Project Engineer and Project Manager staff. Prioritize development activities and clear obstacles allowing staff to remain focused. Assure alignment to Hayward business objectives and Product Marketing groups.  Provide oversight for creation of detail product specifications from defined Market needs.
    • Lead the Project Management Office (PMO) for all Hayward business units. Ensure Project Management coverage and adherence to the Hayward Gated development process for all enterprise level development projects companywide.   Includes multiple site locations and additional business units such as filters, pumps, cleaners, etc.
    • Augment or create processes and methods for product development.  Evaluate and improve reporting and project management tools needed for world class development performance.
    • Ability to summarize and provide concise status reports of project progress with senior management. Oversee presentations and documentation for product development phase gate reviews.
    • Collaborate with software and Hardware groups to define project staff.  Maintain project plans identifying utilization per resource to level the workload per resource and per discipline.
    • Collaborate with Quality, Test, Reliability and Manufacturing groups to ensure development flow through test and into production.  Ensure any product development or VAVE initiative has completed testing and validation to the Hayward gated development process.
    • Manage third party development efforts from definition of initial specification to delivery. Interface with Finance and Purchasing groups for NDA and contractual obligations.  Ensure work product for any third party contractor is satisfactory, efficient and meets Hayward standards for delivered work. Track estimates and progress to defined milestones ensuring budgeted expenditure matches actual delivered work.



    • Engineering degree with 15+ years’ experience in a product development environment.
    • 8+ years’ experience managing cross-functional product development efforts.  Management of Project Managers a plus.
    • Demonstrated expertise with the development of products from concept into manufacturing, balancing cost, performance and schedule.
    • Experience mentoring and training Project Management staff to best practices.  Expertise of product development processes, tools and analysis methods.
    • Knowledge of safety standards and agency regulations associated with product development.
    • Demonstrated experience interfacing with manufacturing engineering and production personnel.
    • Design and development experience of medium to high-volume consumer products a plus.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; skill at developing and delivering technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and senior management.
    • Team player who works across multiple functional areas to deliver project requirements.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent technical degree
