    Postion Overview:

    Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating injection molding machines, in set-up of the machines and material handlers who service the injection molding department.



    Directly supervises approximately 25 hourly employees in the Molding Department utilizing 34 molding machines and one extrusion machine. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
    • Ensures quality parts are produced on schedule according to production schedules.
    • Assigns duties and examines work for conformance to quality standards.
    • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
    • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
    • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
    • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
    • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
    • Maintains time and production records.
    • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
    • Sets up machines and equipment if necessary.
    • Reports machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
    • Confers with quality control inspector or supervisor if there are questions regarding quality of parts.
    • Reports any processing or machine problems that cannot be resolved to Molding Manager.
    • Confers with Production Planner on priorities for molding machines with regard to mold changes, etc.
    • Ensures that machine set-ups are done properly to avoid machine and mold damage.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.



    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and training.
    • A strong background in supervision required.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations, to other supervisors and in small group situations to employees of the department.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal with problems involving employees; Ability to determine problems if rate is not made on a specific machine.  
    • Ability to use CRT, printer and Mattec System. Ability to use calculator to calculate parts produced, machine rates being met, etc. Knowledge of secondary equipment used in this department such as machining centers, drill presses, grinders, and band saws. Must be able to work days or nights; must be able to adapt to working different shift schedules on short notice.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


    Work Environment:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This noise comes from molding machines, grinders and secondary equipment.
