    Position Overview:

    Performs detailed visual and dimensional inspection of in-house molded parts, subassemblies and assemblies for conformance BOM’s, Manufacturing OP’s, QA Instructions, approved samples and engineering blueprints.



    Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Confers with operators, supervisors or engineering representatives to determine and enforce quality standards.
    • As required, performs detailed visual and dimensional inspection of supplier materials and molded  components.
    • As required, performs First Article Inspection on components molded from new tooling or revised tooling which has been significantly revised/refurbished.  Requires excellence in blueprint reading and metrology setups; and the aptitude retrieve programs and follow detailed instructions to inspect part(s).  
    • As required, performs inspection of returned goods known as RGA (Returned Goods Analysis)
      and determines product defect.  Information from analysis is critical to Hayward’s efforts
      to identify trends in returned products so appropriate Corrective Action can be taken to
      prevent further loss of customer satisfaction levels.
    • As required, sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts or products to measure performance, life or material characteristics.
    • Uses a wide variety of gages, tools and other measuring devices.
    • Performs basic electrical measurements on products.
    • Performs within requirements of the documented Quality Assurance System.
    • Generates Non-Conforming Material Report  when items are found which deviate from established QA standards.  As appropriate, reports are distributed to management and suppliers.
    • Enters data to track part history, supplier performance, in-house efficiency and defect rates, failure modes, etc., into computer.  Evaluates test data using standard spreadsheets or other application software.
    • Use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) to properly evaluate process and make recommendations to improve or eliminate variables affecting the process.
    • Recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality.
    • Performs inspection of First Piece set-up.
    • Maintains good housekeeping practices and performs duties in a safe and efficient manner so as not to inflict injury to self or others.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.



    • Excellent blueprint reading capability.  
    • Proficient with a wide variety of dimensional measurement equipment including vernier, micrometer, height gage, fixed gages, flow/pressure gages and optical comparator.  
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules and operating instructions.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and other employees.  Excellent interpersonal skills are required to address quality compliance issues with other departments such as Planning, Productions, Purchasing, Engineering, etc.  
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.   
    • Ability to apply those concepts to practical situations.  Working knowledge of SPC including using basic formulas to recalculate Process Control Limits.  
    • Ability to perform simple data entry.  Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel.  Ability to learn new applications as required.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform simple root cause analysis.


    Education and Experience:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of three years direct QA experience in a manufacturing environment.  Familiarity with injection molding and manufacturing assembly preferred.
