    Position overview:

    The Power Electronics Design Engineer will be located in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and be responsible for all aspects of power electronics for a variety of products. The successful candidate will drive the design of these systems from concept through production. The candidate is expected to lead and contribute to the analysis and development of requirements, detailed design, performance analysis and failure analysis.

     

     

     

    Responsibilities

     

     

    • Design and develop power electronics for industrial motor drives including BLDC, PMAC and induction motors ranging from 0.2 kW to 5kW.
    • Design and develop LED driver electronics for lighting products up to 100W.
    • Design and develop switch-mode power supplies of 30W to 500W range
    • Design and optimize PFC control circuits
    • Design power electronic devices for universal AC grid (50/60 Hz, 115/230VAC) that meet safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards.
    • Verify though validation testing that the system meets requirements for: HALT, thermal testing, EMI testing, UL Listing, FCC and CE conformance.
    • Design high reliability power electronics and PCB boards that must meet outdoor environmental standards that include exposure to weather and water as part of normal operation.
    • Working with high voltage/high power circuits using best engineering practices for personal safety and equipment protection.
    • Performing electrical verification testing results analysis and implement corrective actions to improve the design.
    • Develop engineering documentation, engineering specifications and work with manufacturing to implement DFM best practices.
    • Thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles in both analog and digital domains with the ability to leverage this understanding to quickly isolate issues and faults.
    • Ability to guide and oversee layout designers and provide clear layout constraints (PC board stack-up, component placement, high speed routing, etc.).

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • 8-10 years of related experience is required with proven track record
    • Experience with the design and development of industrial motor-drives ranging from 0.2 kW to 5 kW
    • Comprehensive understanding of printed circuit board design for power electronics application, such as analog signal processing and gate driver circuits
    • Experience in the design and development of power electronics that includes semiconductor switches, data convertors, protection circuits, communications interfaces, filters, isolation and voltage regulation
    • Demonstrated experience in common power supply topologies including resonant , two-switch forward, SEPIC and others
    • Experience in all phases of the product development cycle which includes requirements/definition, design and development, verification and transfer to production
    • Strong knowledge of circuit analysis and simulation to ensure design margin and reliability
    • Experience in the design of electronics for harsh and electrically noisy outdoor environments
    • Knowledge of Electrical safety standards, EMI and Environmental compliance
    • Knowledge of mechanical/thermal/packaging design for industrial electronics

     

     

     

    Education:

    • BS in Electrical Engineering required, MSEE preferred
