Internship Description: The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for developing, modifying and executing specifications, mechanical analysis and documentation for a product to be released to production. These products used for the residential swimming pool marketplace.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Primary Focus:

 

  • Update key documentation for the existing products such as specifications and drawings
  • Verify tolerance and part numbers for the existing products and correct as necessary
  • Verifying and checking the Bill of Materials against the build files
  • Create assembly drawings how the product is to be assembled the efficient way
  • Review parts against the specifications and make necessary corrections
  • Evaluate alternative parts and test these parts to improve the design
  • Evaluate the design and recommend product improvements including design changes or parts to improve the cost structures as an integral part of the design team
  • Create specifications and drawings for electro-mechanical parts based on analysis or test results
  • Create and perform engineering verification testing on electromechanical devices, components and entire product
  • Provide support to manufacturing for products released but may need engineering changes
  • Perform lab “hands on” testing and measurements to advance the product performance and reliability using various instruments
  • Participate in product design reviews, dFMEAs, Team Problem Solving, and other design activities        

           

 

Qualifications

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree; mechanical engineering disciplines
  • Familiarity with Solid Works
  • Familiarity with MS Office programs
  • Familiarity with common mobile devices
  • Familiarity with various WEB browsers
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must have transportation to and from internship

 

Goals and Learning Experiences:

 

Throughout this internship, the candidate will be immersed into a professional mechanical design and development organization, over time experiencing every phase of the design cycle including designing for high volume production. The candidate will be exposed to engineering problem solving techniques that are used in the industry environment. The student’s responsibilities shall increase as he/she progresses through college curriculum. This will include but is not limited to:

    • Analysis & Design using various design tools
    • Design of experiments and part tolerance specifications
    • Requirements and testing to requirements
    • Exposure to defining and selecting appropriate materials to meet environmental requirements and test to these climatic conditions
    • Exposure to drawings and part selection with various suppliers
    • Exposure to releasing parts from engineering environment to production environment
    • Developing test cases for parts and product verifications
    • Exposure to working with industry professionals and Team approaches to problem solving
