Internship Description:

The Embedded Software Development Intern will be responsible for developing and debugging new and existing microprocessor based products for the residential swimming pool marketplace.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Analyze issues reported in Hayward's bug tracking system, identify root cause, and propose proper remediation. Upon approval, implement the coding changes.
  • Write new or modify existing unit tests as appropriate
  • Under the guidance of senior developers, assist in designs and development of new features
  • Participate in research and requirements gathering for new features

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing BS/Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering degree (Junior or Senior)
  • Exposed to C programming in an embedded system
  • Exposed to real time operating system
  • Exposed to debug tools such as emulators/debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes
  • Exposed to IDEs such as Eclipse
  • Familiar with GNU tools such as compilers, GDB
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows development environments
  • Familiarity with the concept of source control
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must have transportation to and from internship

Goals and Learning Experiences:

Throughout this internship, the candidate will be immersed into a professional software development organization, over time experiencing every phase of the software development life cycle. The student's responsibilities shall increase as he/she progresses through college curriculum. This will include but is not limited to:

 

  • Agile SCRUM process
  • SQA processes and procedures
  • Embedded systems design considerations
  • Hardware/software interfaces
  • The process of user interface design
  • Exposure to various scripting languages
  • Troubleshooting techniques
  • Source control techniques
