Internship Description:

 

The Materials/Reliability Engineer Intern will be responsible to assist in qualifying plastic materials that will meet product reliability requirements with confidence.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Analyze materials science related reliability issues such as the degradation of plastics and potting materials in pool water.
  • Research material properties and overall suitability to meet reliability requirements.
  • Under the guidance of Senior staff, design test strategies to identify material failure modes.
  • Participate in leading demonstrated reliability tests.
  • Under the guidance of senior staff, perform life data analysis.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS Degree in Materials Engineering/Science (Junior or Senior)
  • Some coursework in mechanical/chemical properties of materials.
  • Some coursework in polymers materials.
  • Some knowledge of surface degradation test methods.
  • Some laboratory/materials testing experience.
  • Familiar with MS Office suite.
  • Successfully completed engineering mathematics.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of Statistics and Physics
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must have transportation to and from internship

Goals and Learning Experiences:

Throughout this internship, the candidate will be immersed into a professional Materials/Reliability Engineering role; over time experiencing every phase of design for reliability and product life cycle. The student's responsibilities shall increase as he/she progresses through the college curriculum. This will include but is not limited to:

 

  • Implement standards based Materials/Reliability tests.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Execute Design for Reliability processes and procedures.
  • Understand Reliability LDA and Stochastic process.
  • Perform Materials R&D studies.
  • Lead Materials Engineering and Verification tests.
  • Perform theoretical and applied aspects of Materials/Reliability engineering.
