Position Overview:


Establishes and maintains network performance as well as security by building network configurations and connections; troubleshooting network problems.



  • Establishes the company’s networking environment through design, configuration and implementation of system standards.
  • Configures and maintains all VLANs, IP subnet and IP addressing schemes for LAN, VoIP and WAN communications.
  • Establishes, configures and maintains all network routers, switches and firewalls to ensure proper communication and security within the Company’s network.
  • Optimizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with vendor network architects on network optimization.
  • Secures network system by configuring security policies, monitoring access and enforcing security policies as directed to by IT management.
  • Ensures that all network documentation is accurate and current.
  • Maintains and reviews all system logs relative to LAN & WAN communications.
  • Reports on network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information and documenting all key aspects of performance.
  • Manages projects relating to networking infrastructure changes and upgrades.
  • Communicates configuration requirements and manages relationships with 3rd party monitoring service providing voice/data circuit monitoring and alerts.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all “out of service” situations within the company’s Voice & Data networking infrastructure.
  • Solid vendor relationship management skills required to administrate and maintain all related network support agreements such as Cisco Smartnet agreements.
  • Updates and maintains job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.


Skills:  Relative skills required for this environment

  • Configuration expertise in a Cisco IOS environment.
  • QOS configuration skills (VoIP) in a Cisco environment.
  • VLAN configuration in a Cisco environment.
  • Configuration skills in a Fortinet Firewall environment.
    • VPN Client configuration, deployment and support.
  • Dynamic & Static routing configuration skills.
  • Routing protocols such as ERIGP, OSPF and BGP.
  • Signaling protocols such as SIP.
  • TCP/IP Versions 4 & 6.
  • Network Performance Tuning.
  • Installing & troubleshooting Voice / Data cross connects and punch downs within MDF’s and IDF’s.
  • Network connectivity support in an HP Windows VMware environment
    • Ethernet connectivity to Cisco 4507 backbone switch
    • Fibre channel connectivity HP 3PAR SAN
  • Supporting networking aspects of Windows Server OS 2008 through 2016.
    • Proxy Server configuration.
    • Windows Terminal Services configuration.
  • Network connectivity support for IBM iSeries (AS400), client access, 5250 emulation.
  • Vendor management experience relative to Voice/Data providers such as
    • AT&T, Century Link, Lightpath, Cogent Communications.
    • WAN Technologies such Frame Relay, MPLS, AVPN
  • Project Management Skills

Education and Experience:

  • Certifications:
  • Cisco CCNA & CCNP
  • MS Windows Administrator

Physical Requirements:

Lifting network equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
