    Working at Hayward

    Based in our North Kingstown, RI facility, and reporting to the Lighting Product and Engineering Manager will develop electrical components, assemblies and systems for innovative LED lighting equipment for in-ground and above-ground pools worldwide (current products are shown at www.hayward-pool.com). He/she will execute product design from concept through volume production, and ensure that the highest levels of design quality and performance are observed.


    • Provide technical leadership and project ownership for platform development projects for the lighting group at Hayward.

    • Lead cross-functional engineering teams to meet product and company objectives for the lighting group. Define project milestones and report progress from concept to production – for larger projects, these activities will be done in conjunction with a project manager.

    • Hands-on design and development of analog and digital circuits, including schematics and Bills of Materials in support of controls group development efforts. Coordinate all engineering tasks, PCB board layout, agency regulations, testing and mitigations as necessary, orchestrate design reviews, support prototype, Alpha and Beta builds and testing for all phases of development.

    • Conduct design feasibility and trade-off studies in support of product development.

    • Ability to summarize and provide concise status reports of project progress. Ability to define issues encountered during development and provide options and recommendations for resolution.

    • Work with internal resources and outside vendors and partners for product prototype development.

    • Orchestrate and coordinate team activities such as design concept brainstorming, 3P Kaizen and FMEA.

    • Collaborate with Hayward Engineering Services resources for Reliability Engineering and Product Testing/Compliance.

    • Communicate design requirements to Hayward manufacturing and outside suppliers.


    • 8+ years of experience in an electrical engineering, electronic and electromechanical product development environment.

    • 1-3 years of experience leading cross-functional development efforts. (experience with water treatment products a plus)

    • Knowledge of Electrical safety standards and agency regulations, EMC and Environmental compliance.

    • Design and development of medium to high-volume consumer products a plus. Demonstrated experience with the development of products from concept to final manufacture, balancing cost, performance and schedule requirements with Voice of the Customer in the design process

    • Demonstrated experience in interfacing with manufacturing engineering.

    • Knowledge of design process tools such as DFMA, FMEA, technology readiness analysis, etc.

    • Experience with configuration management and the engineering change control process.

    • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; skill at developing and delivering technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and executives.

    • Team player who works across multiple functional areas to deliver project requirements.



    • BSEE required, MSEE perfered
