Overview

SUMMARY

Supports production and plant operations by ensuring that materials are obtained from suppliers consistent with system driven requirements at the lowest cost with considerations of quality, reliability of source, engineering specifications, and ISO requirements.  Works with Commodity Managers to assure smooth introduction of corporate wide initiatives, while assuring other requirements are economically procured and available as required.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews MRP reports and determines purchase order requirements by examining inventory and future needs, and staying within monthly budget constraints.
  • Establishes a network of alternative suppliers to satisfy supply needs when necessary.
  • May be required to visit and interview new vendor possibilities.
  • Responsible for placement of and follow up on assigned commodity orders.
  • Reviews open order report and expedites delivery of items as necessary.
  • Interfaces with Production Planning, Receiving, Quality Control, Engineering and other departments to ensure schedule and quality requirements are achieved for all office and/or plant materials.
  • Resolves invoice problems and notifies vendor of any quality, quantity, or pricing issues
  • Attends new product meetings to review and determine new component purchasing responsibilities.
  • Runs P.O. dollar-due and monthly purchased-by-vendor reports for review with management, holding purchasing/buyer/planner meetings to insure that all players are informed of budget requirements; recommends any actions that need to be initiated.
  • Reviews and updates commodity codes for year-end budget forecast requirements.
  • Reviews demand solutions for assumptions needed to forecast MRP (AS 400) system requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three to five years related purchasing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Purchasing experience in a manufacturing setting highly desirable.
