Overview

Position Overview:

Installs molds, sets up machine, troubleshoots and starts up molding machines, as well as secondary and auxiliary equipment.

Responsibilities

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Installs molds, sets up machine, troubleshoots, and starts up molding machines, as well as secondary and auxiliary equipment.
  • Removes equipment and returns to proper area. Cleans up area after each mold change.
  • Works to improve the quality and stability of the manufacturing process.
  • Adjusts closed loop controllers to optimize machine performance and cycle time.
  • Performs first-piece inspections and documents results; takes appropriate action based on results.
  • Reads job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances and determines sequence of operations.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices (end of arm tooling).
  • Sets and adjusts process controllers, secondary and robots.
  • Sets up machine to process from established molding parameters.
  • Provides guidance to maintenance personnel regarding machine malfunction symptoms.
  • Directs and trains other techs as requested.
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies its conformance to standard.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read blueprints, perform first-piece inspection and document results.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving and/or kaizen methodology a definite plus.
  • Excellent attendance required.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift safely; forklift certification is required.
  • Must also be trainable to operate an overhead crane safely for mold placement.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED.  Associate’s degree in a mechanical field strongly preferred.  Robotic experience with EOAT is a plus.  At least 3 years of experience in plastics manufacturing environment required, with injection molding experience (including hydraulics, tooling and programmable controllers) strongly preferred.  An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.  Other physical tasks required include pushing, reaching, climbing and stooping during mold changes.  Must also be able to operate an overhead crane on a regular basis. 

 

Work Environment:

The work environment is generally noisy and dirty; the employee regularly works around dust, oil, electrical devices and mechanically moving parts.  Safety glasses are required while on the plant floor.
