    Position Overview:


    Located in our North Kingstown, RI facility and reporting to the Engineering Compliance Manager, the R&D Lab Manager / Supervisor (TBD) has front-line responsibility for the daily management and coordination of resources and testing activities required to perform DVT, EMC, Reliability, Performance and Regulatory testing of recreational water products that include Robotic Cleaners, Underwater LED Luminaires, Remote Controls and Automation Systems.  This position manages Lab Technicians, Cross Functional Engineering Teams, and outside resources on a daily basis. This position will ensure that the highest level of design quality, integrity and performance are maintained with strict adherence to Hayward Industries and all applicable regulatory programs, policies and procedures.




    Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises, coordinates, and prioritizes the daily activities of Engineering Lab staff engaged in technical procedures including DVT, Product Reliability, Product Evaluation, Regulatory Compliance, and competitive analysis in support of Engineering product development and determination of product conformity to internal design specifications and industry standards.
    • Monitors progress and allocates resources to assure project tasks are completed on schedule.
    • Manages facilities including test and measurement equipment, parts, chemicals, tools, and related materials within the lab area to ensure maximum efficiency of all resources, including equipment calibration and preventive maintenance programs. 
    • Develops and implements laboratory policies, best practices & written procedures. 
    • Supports project testing with external labs as required.
    • Develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant worldwide Product Safety, EMC standards and testing methods.
    • Participates in project team technical design reviews.    
    • Works with Engineers and Lab Staff to resolve issues identified during testing
    • Follows all safety protocols and maintains excellent project organization and status
    • Provides training and education to Product Design Engineers and other Laboratory Staff as appropriate.
    • Conducts performance reviews with Lab Staff.  Implements performance development plans as appropriate.
    • Some travel is required






    • Literate in the use of Microsoft Office toolset
    • Team leader with strong interpersonal skills and unquestionable ethics
    • Self motivator with strong organizational and motivational skills, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to keep project teams engaged and on task is essential.
    • Hands-On experience testing and certifying products with electronic controls
    • Sound background with electrical, hardware, and software principles,
    • Competent with mechanical, electrical, and chemical principles
    • Experience working in an ISO 17025 laboratory environment and agency data acceptance program a plus
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent Hayward to customers, suppliers and third-party approval agencies on a professional level
    • Ability to research, interpret and apply worldwide standards
    • Ability to interpret results and troubleshoot test setups
    • Proven problem solving, analytical, and logical reasoning skills

    Education and Experience:

    • Degree in Engineering discipline. Commensurate skills and experience will be considered.
    • 5 years supervisory experience in a product development and/or product test lab environment.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Some lifting of products under test up to 50 lbs.
